Resources Designed to Help Students Refine Skills

Executive functioning skills are the cognitive abilities that allow us to plan, organize, focus, and regulate our thoughts and actions to achieve goals, essentially acting as the "CEO" of the brain.
Fine motor strategies refer to the techniques and approaches used to enhance or address difficulties with small, precise movements using the hands, fingers, and wrists. These strategies are crucial for activities like writing, buttoning clothes, using tools, and other tasks requiring dexterity and coordination.

Gross motor strategies focus on activities that engage large muscle groups, improving skills like walking, running, jumping, and coordination through activities like obstacle courses, playground play, and ball games.
Self care skills are the everyday tasks undertaken so children are ready to participate in life activities (including dressing, eating, cleaning teeth). They are often referred to as the activities of daily living (ADL’s). While these are typically supported by adults in young children, it is expected that children develop independence in these as they mature
(Kid Sense, 2024).

Sensory strategies are techniques or tools used to help individuals regulate their sensory experiences and improve their ability to participate in daily activities.
